What this means in practice
- If you buy something after following one of our product links, we may receive a small commission. The price you pay is unchanged.
- We are paid the same percentage regardless of which product in a category you choose, so we have no incentive to push a particular brand.
- We accept no payment for placement, for a review, or for a ranking position. No manufacturer reviews a page before publication.
- We link to a specification rather than a single model, because our job is to tell you what to match, not what to buy today.
- Where the honest recommendation is to buy nothing, the page says so. Several of our most-read pages end that way.
Why we link to a specification instead of a model
Most affiliate sites name a model, because a model is what converts. We name a specification, because on this equipment a model number is the least stable thing about the recommendation. Manufacturers revise internals without changing the product name, stock rotates constantly, and prices in these categories swing enough that a ranking written in one season is misleading by the next.
Naming the spec, a 50-pint dehumidifier rated for low-temperature operation with a continuous drain, an under-sink filter certified under NSF/ANSI 53 for lead, a purifier whose smoke CADR clears your room volume four times an hour, survives all of that. It also removes the one incentive that most distorts this kind of writing, because when we are not steering you to a specific unit we have nothing to gain from steering you at all.
What we do not do
- We do not run sponsored posts, paid reviews, or paid placements in any ranking.
- We do not let a manufacturer see a page before it publishes, or change one after.
- We do not accept free product in exchange for coverage.
- We do not use affiliate-network "best of" feeds or auto-generated product tables.
- We do not hide the disclosure. It is on every page of this site, at the bottom, in the same place.
The uncomfortable part
Affiliate revenue creates a real pull toward recommending a purchase, because a page that ends in "test first and you may not need to buy anything" earns nothing. We have decided to write those pages anyway, and several of the most-read pages on this site end exactly that way. You should hold us to it. If a page seems to reach a purchase it did not earn, that is the specific failure to report.
Other revenue, if it ever exists
Today Amazon is the only way this site makes money. If that changes, through a display ad network, a paid newsletter, a direct affiliate relationship with a manufacturer, or anything else, it will be written on this page before it goes live, not after someone notices. Any arrangement that could plausibly influence a recommendation will be named specifically rather than described in general terms.
We will never sell a placement in a ranking, and we will never run an advertisement styled to look like editorial content. Those are the two practices that make a site like this one useless, and there is no revenue figure that would make them worth it.
